Join the Electric Revolution
STI's high-torque, low-rpm motor drive provides clean, quiet electric power drive systems for all kinds of boats.
It replaces diesel or gasoline engines in:
- sailboats
- displacement powerboats
- workboats
- water taxis
from 20 to 55+ feet in length
System Overview
The basic STI system includes:
- drive unit (containing one or two motors) to turn the propeller
- controller to operate each motor
- bank of twelve batteries to supply 144 VDC to the motors
- power distribution busses
- shore-power battery charger
Batteries are regenerated under sail by the prop spinning in the wake. Hybrid-electric systems also include a DC generator to recharge batteries for long-distance motoring and heavy auxiliary systems use. An optional inverter supplies 120 VAC for onboard appliances.
Boat owners are responsible for:
- propeller
- prop shaft
- stuffing box
- # 410 shaft coupling
- ventilation system for battery storage area
- ventilation system for motor compartment
- main 12 volt power switch for house batteries
- 12 V house power system
